Yoga Classes

Whether you are looking for yoga classes in Westchester County, NY or Los Angeles, CA – while searching for yoga classes you will undoubtedly run across the listings for a prenatal yoga class; perhaps unbidden, you will suddenly have visions of sweating women, protruding bellies, and impossible poses. While this may make you think twice about going to the evening Maui yoga classes at the beach – who said that yoga classes in my area had to be inside a building – it should actually encourage you to take up the practice yourself.

Yoga classes for pregnant women were once considered odd and out of the ordinary, but more and more obstetricians are recognizing the value that low impact exercises and especially breathing techniques are having on the mother-to-be as well as the unborn child. Staying fit and healthy while pregnant is a lofty goal, and too many women find that between being fatigued, having to work, and caring for other children the ability to exercise seems to go out the window.

The attendance at prenatal yoga classes, however, offers such harried mothers a convenient way of finding the time to exercise while also benefiting her socially. Teachers and practitioners in charge of prenatal yoga classes are specifically trained in dealing with women who may be in the first, second or third trimester, and thus the exercises, postures, and breathing techniques will be adjusted according to the progression of your pregnancy.

In addition to the foregoing, yoga classes not only benefit you when it comes to your overall fitness, but they also go a long ways to helping you prepare for the actual birth itself, which is not a small feat, no matter what modern science and medicine try to sell you. The ability to control your breathing, to put mind over matter, and to focus for prolonged periods of time will not make four hours of back labor feel like tiptoeing through the tulips, but they will help you in quite possibly keeping up your energy and also conserving your energies for the time when it really counts to have that last spurt.

Obviously you do not just want to jump into a new exercise regimen without first discussing it with your doctor, and if there are any problems in your pregnancy, you may have to think twice about signing up for a prenatal yoga class. Yet for those with an uneventful pregnancy, this may be a wonderful opportunity on a number of levels!
