Yoga For Meditation

When it comes to yoga, meditation is oftentimes assumed to be part and parcel of the practice. As a matter of fact, yoga and meditation are often so closely related that many who wish to practice meditation and yoga are somewhat disappointed when they attend local yoga classes and suddenly realize that carefully and neatly the spiritual aspect has been divorced from the physical exercise. Yet while it appears that yoga for meditation is becoming evermore rare, there are those few teachers and schools that refuse to separate the disciplines.

Understanding that meditation is the art of concentrating to such an extent that all that which may be considered white noise to the process is gradually and single mindedly shut out. Yoga for meditation is an age old practice that requires the body to shut down the fidgeting and the twitching that will often prevent the yogi from truly focusing to such a degree that awareness of that which is meditated upon will be achieved. With the help of exercises and breathing techniques – all of which may be learned with the help of yoga meditation tapes - yoga for meditation becomes a means to an end, not just an activity for the sake of itself.

Interestingly, there are now new schools cropping up which are tastefully decorated with yoga meditation cushions, yoga meditation chairs and which also feature impressive libraries earning them the title “yoga and meditation center” rather than simply yoga studio or meditation center. By once again focusing on yoga for meditation rather than simply making it into the latest exercise craze or weight loss fad, the century old practices are being revived.

It makes sense for those seeking to elevate their spirituality to another plain to choose yoga for meditation rather than simply tackling the meditation away from the poses and breathing exercises that yoga has to offer. Yet by the same token, those who do enjoy the exercises and physical aspects of yoga but do not wish to engage in the practice of meditation also wish to be accommodated. Thus, it is probably feasible to have different school existing side by side. There will be the studios devoted to sweating out fat and toxins – as is the case for the aficionados of hot yoga – just like there will be meditation centers that will not focus on yoga by itself but instead incorporate it into a bigger plan.
